Verkhovyna National Nature Park

About the park

You should get to the park to slow down. Watch as the sun hides behind the towering mountains, as the treetops merge with the sky, as the stream flows into an unstoppable waterfall. Listen to the wind and look at every detail of landscapes that seem to be painted.

Verkhovyna National Nature Park is the most remote and inaccessible part of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Therefore, here you can see natural landscapes that have been formed for millions of years.

This is the only place where the oldest metamorphic formations come to the surface, covered by Paleozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary cover. On the slopes of the ridges there are outcrops of Jurassic limestone boulders, creating exotic landscapes. The most valuable virgin and subalpine meadows grow here, the sources of the White and Black Cheremosh rivers are located.

Verkhovyna is the center of Hutsul culture. Easter painting, making musical instruments, weaving, wood carving are widespread here. You will be able not only to see the products, but also to meet folk artists and try to create something yourself. And in winter you should visit the impressive celebration of Christmas. There are many museums here: Hutsul culture, cheese-making, laziness, trembitar… The house-museum of the film “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” attracts special attention. And there are many other historical and cultural monuments that you will want to see.
